What is Cloud Computing and Why is it Important?

In the broadest of terms, cloud computing is the delivery of hosted services over the internet. It’s a model that relies on sharing computing resources rather than using local servers or devices to handle applications. With cloud computing, various services, including applications servers and storage, are made available to individual devices (like desktops, laptops, and phones) over the Internet.

Cloud computing provides benefits for organizations of almost any size and industry. These include cost savings, ease of management, the nearly global reach of the Internet, and faster development and rollout of applications. Because of these advantages, organizations are increasingly using cloud services for internal operations, and serving customers and partners.

For each course in the program, grades are determined by unit exams and a final exam. Unit exams are timed, and may be taken twice. The higher of the two unit exam scores is used in determining the final course grade. The course final exam may also be taken twice, with the higher of the two final exam scores counting towards the final course grade. An overall grade of 80% or higher is required to successfully pass a course. All courses must be passed to successfully complete the program.

There are also quizzes to test students’ knowledge and to help prepare for exams at the end of the unit. Students may retake quizzes as many times as they wish. Quizzes do not count toward the final course grade, but they can help students determine their level of understanding as they work through the course.  Handouts, worksheets, lab guides and other resources are provided with each course, which are also available for students to download.
