Comprehension
Student is able to accurately answer almost all questions and demonstrates good understanding of the content. Student is able to accurately answer most questions and demonstrates basic understanding of the content. Student is able to accurately answer a few questions and shows some understanding of the content. Student is unable to accurately answer questions and does not seem to understand the content.
Pauses
Pauses were minimal and responses were not bogged down with fillers such as "um" and "uh." Student pauses a few times but they were short and student used relatively few fillers. Student pauses several times and/or uses fillers. Student makes long pauses and/or uses fillers to the point where it is distracting for the listener.
Pronunciation
Pronunciation is correct and easily understood. Some pronunciations are awkward but content is understood. Pronunciation is often awkward making the content hard to understand. Pronunciation is mostly awkward and as a result the content cannot be understood.
Grammar
Uses correct grammar with only 1 or 2 mistakes. Uses correct grammar with only 3 or 4 mistakes. Makes several grammar mistakes which can be distracting to the listener.

Makes grammar mistakes near constantly and cannot be understood as a result.

Focus on Topic
The essay focuses on the topic. Main idea stands out and is supported by detailed information. Main idea is clear and related to the topic but the supporting information is general  or ineffective. The topic is covered but the main idea and supporting details sometimes stray from the point. The topic is not covered or the main idea is not clear. There is a seemingly random collection of information.
Word Choice
Wording seems accurate, natural and not forced. Wording seems accurate and natural with no more than 1-2 awkward choices. Wording communicates the point but 3-4 awkward choices are present. Writer uses a limited vocabulary that does not communicate strongly and/or is awkward.
Grammar/Spelling
Writer makes no errors in grammar or spelling that distract the reader from the content. Writer makes 1-2 errors in grammar or spelling that distract the reader from the content. Writer makes 3-4 errors in grammar or spelling that distract the reader from the content. Writer makes more than 4 errors in grammar or spelling that distract the reader from the content.
Sentence Structure
All sentences are well-constructed with varied structure. Most sentences are well-constructed with varied  structure. Most sentences are well-constructed but have a similar structure.

Sentences lack structure and appear incomplete or rambling.
