| (Cynthia Fettig) | ||
| Class ID# 12659 | ||
| Prerequisite: ESL Teaching Methods (or taken simultaenously with Four Skills). At the heart of the English language are four essential skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. This class explores the foundations and practice of helping ESL students grow in their mastery of these skills. In addition to gaining a solid theoretical understanding of how students learn, you will also develop practical, ready-to-use lesson plans. The lab practical segment of this class will help you develop new ideas that really work. You'll have a chance to share and refine the ideas and techniques you are using in your current teaching setting. Students will be expected to complete 10 hours of practice teaching while taking this class. Cynthia Fettig has been working in the ESL field for 17 years. Her teaching experience includes teaching general and business English in Japan and Spain, teaching English for Academic Purposes at Cornell University and NC State, and teaching survival English skills to immigrants and refugees in the United States. She has been a teacher trainer in various settings including the public schools and as the director of a language school in Tokyo. She holds a Master's degree in TESOL from the School for International Training. | ||
