Capstone Internship
(Christine Jernigan)
Class ID# 12745
Are you looking for a more focused way to observe, plan, teach, and be evaluated in a supportive, non-threatening environment? If so, you may want to consider a Capstone Internship, which will fulfill the requirements for the Capstone Practicum. Once accepted into the program, you will be linked with a specially trained mentor teacher who is familiar with or has completed our ESL Teaching program, and whose classes fit your schedule. You will attend a minimum of six ESL class sessions (at least 12 hours) during which you will observe, participate with, and finally, teach ESL students under the close supervision of the mentor. In addition to your mentor, who will be able to address most of your questions and concerns, you will also have the direction of the Internship Supervisor, who will guide your internship, hear about your progress and challenges by phone, email, or in person, and make any necessary modifications. Enrollment is limited and competitive, and restricted to those within the ESL track. Interested students should apply for a Capstone Internship using the form found at http://www.learnmore.duke.edu/certificates/esl. If you have questions, please contact Garry Crites (gjc3@duke.edu). In addition to the traditional Capstone Practicum, this year we are offering a Capstone Internship, which will fulfill the classroom and teaching requirements for the Practicum. Once accepted into the program, the prospective intern will be interviewed by a specially-trained mentor teacher somewhere in the Triangle. After being selected by a mentor, the intern attends a minimum of six ESL class sessions (at least 12 hours) during which the intern observes, participates, and finally, teaches ESL students under the close supervision of the mentor. Enrollment is limited and competitive, and restricted to those within the ESL track. Interested students should apply for a Capstone Internship using the form found at http://www.learnmore.duke.edu/certificates/esl. If you have questions, please contact Garry Crites (gjc3@duke.edu) or Tanya Anderson (tanya.l.anderson@duke.edu).
