Admission Criteria
Participants in this noncredit certificate program must have earned a four-year degree from an accredited university.* Any requests for exceptions to the above admissions requirements must be made in writing to the Program Director. Approval of exceptions are at the discretion of the Program Director. Participants must also be computer literate, have access to a computer and a valid email account, and be fluent in English, including reading and writing. A completed registration form and a resume or biography with payment in full are required for enrollment. Due to limited space in this program per term, early application is suggested.

*Students with a degree earned from a university outside the United States will need to verify eligibility of their institution with the CFP Board before applying for this program.

Earning the Certificate
Successful completion of Duke University's program fulfills the education requirement for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® Certification. Each graduate of the program will be awarded a Duke University certificate of completion and will be eligible to apply for the CFP® Exam.

There are no mandatory attendance requirements for this program. However, it is expected that each student will attend classes to the best of his or her ability, and will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the materials by passing all assignments of the 6 courses. In each course students will be required to take 2 or 3 in-class tests on Saturday mornings. Students will also be given a take-home exam on the final day of the course, to be returned to the instructor within 2 weeks for grading.

Successful completion of the Duke program indicates a minimum score of 70 was achieved for each course (cumulative, weighted scores for all tests and exams) and tuition was paid in full.

If a student misses an in-class test or isn’t present to receive the take-home exam, it is the responsibility of the student to contact the instructor to make up missed exams and/or assignments. Instructors will work with students so long as the student is able to take or complete the tests in a timely manner. If a student does not pass a course, she or he will be allowed to take the same course (there is no limit to the number of courses) within a year at no extra charge, in order to complete the program.

Upon successful completion of each course students are given a grade report and certificate of completion. Upon successful completion of the entire program students will receive an Executive Certificate in Financial Planning from Duke University.*

Official Duke Continuing Studies transcripts are available upon request for $10/copy.

*The certificate is non-credit thus it does not apply toward a degree.

Instructors
All instructors in the Executive Certificate of Financial Planning program have passed the CFP® exam. Multiple instructors teach in the program thus offering students the benefit of being exposed to different perspectives of the financial planning industry. Instructors present the material in a manner that allows students to utilize their time efficiently and effectively outside of the classroom, thus helping students succeed in this intensive, fast-paced program.
