Certificate in Human Resource Management

Program Certificate

Students who participate in and complete all non-graded activities/assignments, achieve a minimum score of 70 on all graded assignments and the final exam, as well as attend 70% of the program, will receive a Certificate of completion from Duke Continuing Studies.*

Students who are pursuing the PHR or SPHR certification will also have to apply for and successfully pass the national exam. Please note: in order to qualify for the PHR exam you must have at least two (2) years of exempt-level human resource work experience (for the SPHR exam, 4-5 years experience).

*The certificate is noncredit and does not apply toward a degree.

HRCI National Certification Exam

The Duke certificate program will prepare you for either the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources(SPHR) exams. Completion of this certificate program, while excellent preparation for the exam, does not guarantee success on the certification exam itself.

The national certification exams are given twice yearly. The Spring exam is given May through June and the Winter exam is given December through January. Students who plan to sit for either the PHR or SPHR exam need to apply for the exam via the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) as they administer the exam. (See www.hrci.org.)

Duke University Continuing Studies has no affiliation with exam registration.  It is the responsibility of the student to contact HRCI and adhere to exam registration deadlines and processes.

Note: Exam Registration booklets will be included in the set of SHRM books students receive for the Duke Continuing Studies course.
