Requirements

Admission Requirements for Duke Exam Review Program

  • If you plan to apply for the PHR exam:
    • 1 year of demonstrated professional HR experience with a Master's degree or higher
      2 years of demonstrated professional HR experience with a Bachelor's degree
      4 years of demonstrated professional HR experience with less than a Bachelor's degree
    If you plan to apply for the SPHR exam:
    • 4 year of demonstrated professional HR experience with a Master's degree or higher
      5 years of demonstrated professional HR experience with a Bachelor's degree
      7 years of demonstrated professional HR experience with less than a Bachelor's degree

      Note: Starting in 2011 education level determines years of experience required to qualify for PHR/SPHR exam
  • Fluency in English (including reading and writing)
  • Understanding that curriculum is based upon US laws and practices
  • Computer literacy
  • Access to a computer as testing is completed online
  • Valid email account
  • Tuition paid in full prior to start of program

*Eligibility requirements for PHR/SPHR exam may differ.

Admission is discretionary. Duke Continuing Studies-Professional Certificate Programs- requires students be a least 18 years of age and meet minimum suitability standards. Students are not matriculated Duke University students and university student privileges do not apply to Continuing Studies students.

Duke Continuing Studies reserves the exclusive right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to withhold registration or require withdrawal from the program of, any student or applicant.

Completion Requirements

  • Participation and completion of all nongraded assignments
  • Achieve minimum score of 80 on all graded assignments
  • Attend 9 of 10 classes (1 absence allowed)
  • All assignments must be completed by deadline established by program instructor

Other Program Notes

Admission to and completion of the Duke HR Certificate Program does not guarantee eligibility for the national PHR/SPHR exam. The Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) governs the policies, processes and administration of the national examinations and does require a minimum level of work experience to qualify for the national exams based upon education level. Prospective students to the Duke HR Certificate Program whose intent is to sit for either the PHR/SPHR national examination should consult with HRCI (www.hrci.org) to ascertain if they meet the exam eligibility work experience and education requirements.
