Paralegal Studies - Continuing Paralegal Education Classes

Overview

Why take a Continuing Paralegal Education class?

  • Need credits to maintain your NC State Bar Certification?
  • Interested in studying a particular topic, like Intellectual Property or Business law?

The Duke University Paralegal Certificate Program offers Continuing Paralegal Education (CPE) courses geared to the needs of working paralegals. Course topics are relevant to the field and are open to any paralegal professional. Duke’s CPE classes are NC State Bar approved and allow NC State Bar Certified Paralegals to obtain the necessary credits to keep their certification current.

Duke’s CPE courses are open to any paralegal, certified or not. Are you looking to expand your knowledge of a certain topic? Planning to change jobs and want to work with a firm that does a specialized area of law like IP or Elder Law? These one-day seminars will provide you with an overview of the specific area of law and explore the kinds of work done by that specialty. Use these classes to improve your chance of landing a new job or attend simply for your own personal knowledge. Either way, it will be a day well spent.

To ensure that we continue offering courses that are relevant to the current legal climate and capture growing areas of law, courses will change periodically. Please check back regularly to make sure you are aware of our latest course offerings.

"To qualify for continued certification, a certified paralegal must participate in not less than six (6) hours of board approved continuing paralegal education (CPE) each year. One hour of the six CPE credits must be in ethics/professional responsibility. Renewal is required as of the first day of the month following the anniversary of the original certification date (e.g. if a paralegal is certified on July 16, 2005, his or her renewal date will be August 1, 2006, and every August 1 thereafter.)"
