The beautiful and complex universe around us is created from relatively few building blocks - molecules - and we, ourselves, are made of molecules. What are molecules? What holds them together? What gives them their properties? How do different combinations of atoms make such amazingly different molecules? Don't be concerned if you haven't studied science, you can understand the basic principles and come to appreciate the underlying foundations of our wonderful natural world. We will begin with water (my favorite molecule) and finish with proteins - nature's greatest architectural achievement. We will talk about iron, diamonds, molecules of food and spices, air pollution, more. Nearly everything we see around us is governed by the properties of molecules. Lecture (plus questions). Facilitated Discussion.
