Raised between the 40’s and 60’s, many of us are totally without sex education. We grew up in an atmosphere of sex negativity and echoes of this still remain with us. We are uncomfortable talking about sex! This class will explore human sexuality diversity and normalize the wide variety of human sexual expression. Topics will include anatomy and physiology of sexual pleasure; sex education in the US and Scandinavia; why we are such highly sexual animals; the influence of religion, the law, and medicine on sexual expression--shame, guilt, sex negativity/positivity, and mental/physical health. Additional subjects will be gender diversity (guest speaker from Duke); aging and sexuality; and the changing face of sex, love, and marriage in the 21st Century, such as swinging, open marriage, polyamory and (guest speaker) for BDSM.
