In this course, the new or experienced family historian will learn genealogical research skills and methods to gain or improve their working knowledge of the genealogical research process and the most frequently used American records from the 19th and 20th©century. There will be two field trips, for hands-on research experience, one to the Family History Center in Chapel Hill and one to the North Carolina State Library in Raleigh. Use of the Internet will be discussed as it pertains to each area, but will not be the focus of this course. To get the most out of this course, the students will be asked to do some homework related to their own family history. Lecture (plus questions). Field Trip(s).
