1887 - Beyond the Travel Guide Book: Preparing for a Big Trip
Whether your travel plans are real or imaginary, the experience can be enhanced by a broad approach to learning about your destination. Many people intend to "read up" before departure, and this course helps you do so. You’ll explore the physical environment, food, history, arts, sports, and other topics of your choice. The instructor will help you locate resources in expected and unexpected places (e.g. novels, recipe books, online forums). The course also helps you keep track of your discoveries by creating a WordPress blog that can be continued if and when you hit the road. Have you ever sent email updates or shared photos with folks back home? Blogging is the next level of recording and sharing your experience. You’ll create weekly posts, practice uploading photos, add links, and simulate travel conditions by working offline. Plan to bring a laptop or tablet computer to class each week. Recommended: 1 hour of homework/week. Facilitated Discussion. Hands-On Computer Use. Viewing Videos. Writing.
