2120 - Art Nouveau Architecture: An International Style?
Have you ever traveled and seen buildings with beautiful swirling lines and decorations that had a somewhat contemporary feel? Maybe you are seeing the Art Nouveau style of the early 20th century! This style is unique in that it was interpreted in different, yet similar ways, in a variety of places. This lecture will explore and contrast the Art Nouveau style by designers such as Scotland’s Charles Rennie MacKintosh, America’s Louis Comfort Tiffany and others. From this introduction, hopefully, you will gain a greater appreciation of the abstracted beauty of Art Nouveau found in buildings, furniture and decorative arts. Lecture (plus questions).
