There are numerous aid agencies and organizations working towards poverty eradication in the world we live in today. Yet, when we look around us, there is visible poverty and suffering. There seems to be a clear disconnect between aid and on-ground development. In this class we look to identify and explore this disconnect through case-studies, videos and guest lectures. We will understand Sustainable Development with a few local and international success stories, followed by in-depth discussion about factors leading to their success and potential for replication. The concept of micro-finance will be explored along with specific micro-finance products. The role of innovation will also be explored. The class will wrap up with a discussion on constraints and impediments in international development. Lecture (plus questions). Facilitated Discussion. Viewing Videos.
