2132 - Time Travel to Medieval England: Daily Life in a Feudal Society
In this course, you will learn what it was like to wake up each day in medieval England as a noble, knight, merchant or serf. As a noble, you might spend the day speaking French unable to understand your Anglo-Saxon speaking serfs. We’ll learn about medieval “careers” and research culinary dishes. You will hear people speak across the ages about the milestones of birth, marriage and death. There will be readings and discussion about how people were governed, what they believed in and the role of women. We’ll learn how the institution of Parliament and the force of common law originated and how these affected everyday life. We’ll revel in English medieval art, architecture and entertainment. The goal of this course is to have fun and learn through lectures, video clips, discussion and readings of primary sources. Lecture (plus questions). Facilitated Discussion.
