Micro-fiction, flash fiction, and short stories--every story begins with a spark! But how do we get from the idea to the complete story draft? And what do we do when we think we are done? In this class we will explore different forms of short fiction, looking at elements of craft including character, voice, point of view, and structure, as well as the process of revision and editing. Through writing prompts, exercises, and class discussions and workshop, we will generate and grow story ideas and turn them into drafts. Then we will revise and edit the stories to make them shine. The class will end with a discussion of the process of publication and take a look at some literary journals that may be a right fit for your stories. Lecture (plus questions). Facilitated Discussion. Writing.
