2180 - Reading Poetry: Voices From Around the World
The aim of this class is to introduce American readers to some of the rich variety of contemporary poetry written in languages other than English. We will read and discuss poets and poetry from Latin America, the Middle East, Europe (East and West), Asia and Africa, all in excellent English translations. There will be little or no lecturing. We will read poems aloud and talk about them in whatever manner the class desires. The instructor's role will be selecting poems to be read and moderating discussion. Poets to be read include Pablo Neruda, Anna Akhmatova, Yehuda Amichai, Wislawa Szymborska, and a host of less well-known but equally gifted writers. Facilitated Discussion.
