2258 - Beauty: Aesthetics in Art, Nature, and Photography
What is aesthetics? What is the connection between aesthetics and art? Do we experience beauty differently in art than in nature? Does beauty actually exist out there at all, or only in the eye of the beholder? Why does aesthetic experience matter to us? How does it relate to sensation, perception, feeling, emotion, taste, imagination, conceptualization? How does it differ from pleasures of attraction or excellence? Using lots of illustrations from nature and the visual arts, we will develop answers to such questions and then consider how it all connects in the particular case of photography. Lecture (plus questions). Facilitated Discussion.
