Action Science Camp for Young Women

Living Options

Residential Campers

Residential students live on the Duke campus for the duration of the program. They live in Bell Tower, an air-conditioned residence hall on Duke's East Campus and eat their meals in the campus dining halls. They are expected to have the independence and maturity to make responsible decisions for themselves about their health and safety, and to interact cooperatively with other members of the program community.

Day Campers

All day campers must check in on Monday morning at the French Science Building on Duke's West Campus (see map) between 8:30 - 8:45 am. At check-in, day campers will pick up a camp T-shirt, writing supplies, and other important camp information.

TENTATIVE DAILY SCHEDULE
8:45 Drop-off at French Science Building (West Campus)
12:30 Lunch
3:30 Pick-up at French Science Building (unless otherwise specified)

Transportation
Day campers and their families must arrange transportation to and from campus everyday. Please note that classes begin promptly at 9:00 am and end at 3:30 pm Monday through Friday the first week and Monday through Thursday the second week. Staff members are not available to supervise day campers before the designated drop-off time or after the indicated pick up times.

Carpool
Each session, campers usually commute from all over the Triangle area. If you are interested in adding your name to the carpool list, you may indicate this in the packet materials. We will send out a carpool list at least 2 weeks before the session begins, so that you may arrange ride sharing with other parents/guardians.

If the camper will not be attending class for any reason on a particular day, please call the administrative office at (919) 684-2827 by 8:30am to leave a message with the Duke Youth Programs staff.

What to Bring
Day campers may wish to bring a small day backpack with a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, water bottle and rain gear as needed.

Lunch
Lunch is included in the camp tuition. The dining hall offers a wide variety of lunch entrees, salads, desserts and drinks. Vegetarian options are available. Campers may not leave the Duke campus for lunch.
