Course Description

The aim of this course is to use the archaeological evidence from the ancient city of Pompeii to explore Roman culture. Pompeii provides a unique opportunity to look at ancient Roman society because the city was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE and sealed until it was rediscovered in the 18th century. Using artifacts, art, and architecture from the site, we will explore the history and development of the city and its economy, municipal and social life, religion, domestic life, and art. | Lecture + Q&A.
