Course Description

UPDATED 1/11/2022 - THIS CLASS IS CANCELLED. : As the #MeToo movement and the debate over systemic racism spread across the nation and around the world, many of us are challenged to reflect on our own history, beliefs, and complex experiences of race and gender. Using prompts from Polly Hamilton Hilsabeck’s novel, "American Blues" (April 2022 release), to inspire and focus our reflection on and writing about our own lived experience, in this in-person course, we will employ a variety of writing genres (memoir, poetry, essay, fiction) to explore our own history and as a catalyst for connecting with others. Students can anticipate a weekly writing assignment to be completed outside of class. | Facilitated discussion.
