This class will cover the why, what, and how of collecting fine art photography. We will explore the motivations and mechanics of collecting as well as the presentation, care, and documentation of your collection including software, vintage vs. non-vintage prints, analog vs. digital, gallery and artist relationships, framing, various channels for purchasing work, and collecting as investment. If time allows we will look at the exciting world of photo books. The class includes hands-on access to the Cassilhaus Collection as well as field trips to other collections in the area. No prior experience required - just a love of photography. This is NOT a class on the history of photography nor a survey of photographic technique or historical processes. This course is at Cassilhaus, the instructor's modernist home/art gallery/studio and artist-in-residence program.
