Course Description

Yoga is more than improving the body’s flexibility. It means union with consciousness and the energy that pervades our mind and body and the entire universe. This course integrates Patanjali’s teachings, dated two thousand years ago, with multiple belief systems. Each class will address two curricular goals: 1) background information on yoga from original Sanskrit texts; the eight-step process prescribed by Patanjali; Jain, Buddhist, Sikh, Christian, Jewish, Islamic, and even atheist yogic practices, including presentations by guests with specific expertise; and modern scientific literature on benefits of yoga; 2) thirty to forty-five minutes of yoga and meditation practice with recommendations for practice at home. The benefits of this practice are better mental focus, improved physical health and sleep, peace and tranquility.  Lecture(plus Questions) Exercise or Dance
