Course Description
Those who choose to work in the area of family law will find that the career is rewarding and that job growth will most likely continue to expand. This course covers premarital agreements, traditional marriage and alternatives, annulment, spousal support, property division, separation agreements, child custody, separation and divorce tax issues, legal rights of women, paternity proceedings, adoption, and how tort law relates to family law.
This certificate is comprised of three required courses and one elective:
- Family Law
- Juvenile Law
- Alternative Dispute Resolution

- Legal Ethics
- Laws of Evidence; OR
- Advanced Legal Research

Graduates of the Duke Paralegal Certificate Program and Duke Paralegal Online Certificate Program are eligible to receive a $800 discount on each specialist certificate course. Tuition must be paid in full before a student can start the program. Books are purchased separately and range between $45 and $160 per book. Prerequisites
A degree or certificate in paralegal studies is required OR a bachelor's or associate's degree in any field AND a minimum of three years work experience as a paralegal under the direct supervision of an attorney.
