End-of-life issues will be faced by everyone. In short, it is one of the most important aspects of legal representation because it not only affects the client, but the client's family and heirs. This course covers many topics relevant to this area of law, including the estate plan, the concept of wills, trusts and estate administration, the law of succession, validity issues, final draft, execution of the will, classification of trusts, living trusts, long-term care, personal representatives, probate and estate administration, tax considerations, and ethical principles.

Graduates of the Duke Paralegal Certificate Program and Duke Paralegal Online Certificate Program are eligible to receive a $800 discount on each specialist certificate course. Tuition must be paid in full before a student can start the program. Books are purchased separately and range between $45 and $160 per book. When registration is complete, the student will receive an email containing a username and password to the program's website, information on purchasing textbooks, and instructor and support contact information.
A degree or certificate in paralegal studies is required OR a bachelor's or associate's degree in any field AND a minimum of three years work experience as a paralegal under the direct supervision of an attorney.
