About EngageU
Alongside university partners, the EngageU team supports summer pre-college and middle school programming through academic development and residential life services. We are seeking engaging individuals with strong leadership skills, past residential life and/or experience with youth to support middle and high school students during their summer experience. EngageU is powered by the National Student Leadership Conference.
The Role
Office Assistants (OAs) with EngageU will support the summer academic program delivered by Duke University. OAs complete administrative tasks, assist with program delivery, maintain a positive living environment for all students and staff, manage student health and wellness needs, and handle parent communications. A typical day lasts from 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM, with the office staff rotating in shifts. OAs arrive on-site 7 days before students to participate in a mandatory orientation and training and to set up the site for student arrival. This training runs from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM daily. OAs also assist with the office set-up and the closing of the site at the end of the summer.
Responsibilities
- Answer parent phone calls and emails
- Assist administrative staff with site/program logistics, including the set up and break down of activities and managing inventory of site supplies
- Facilitate student onsite registration and departures including commuter check-in/check-out each day
- Assist with student wellness and supervision
- Transport students for medical reasons or to assist with field trips
- Reside in the dormitory on the same floors as students, serving as a Resident Advisor
Qualifications
- OAs are generally current college students
- Applicants should have experience mentoring and chaperoning youth and customer service/office experience
- Competency with Google Drive/Suite and Microsoft Office
- Background and interest in leadership, organization, and logistics coordination is preferred
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing/able to transport students
Compensation
Summer 2025 will run June 16 - July 26. OAs will be paid $800 per week, for a summer total of $4000. EngageU/Duke pays for room & board, meals during sessions (most of which are eaten in the dining hall on campus), and transportation to and from the program.
